Following the extraordinary participation of the faithful in St. Peter's Square yesterday, the world heads into the final day of Pope Benedict XVI's Petrine ministry with poignant expectation.
Aleteia, in partnership with Centro Televisivo Vaticano (CTV) and Radio Vaticana, will provide live coverage (above) of the Pope's transfer from the Vatican to Castel Gandolfo from 4:45 PM to 6:00 PM Central European Time (10:45 AM to 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time).
The Director of CTV, Msgr. Dario Edoardo Viganò, has stressed that CTV feels a great "responsibility to grant history a document of particular relevance; one that will allow viewers to reminisce and be moved, but also one that respects the theologian Pope's free and humble decision.
Msgr. Viganò also mentioned that the Pope's transfer to Castel Gandolfo will be covered by 19 cameras, including aerial coverage. He said that the inspiration for the coverage came from "the desire to show the closeness of not only the hundreds of thousands of faithful present toward the Pope, but also the Pontiff's profound desire to gather each and every one of them in a large embrace."
