Pope Francis: “Twenty five years ago, on November 9, 1989 the Berlin wall fell, which for so long had cut the city in two and had been a symbol of ideological division in Europe and the entire world. The fall happened suddenly, but it was made possible by the long and arduous efforts of many people who had fought, prayed and suffered for it, some even to the sacrifice of life. Saint Pope John Paul II had a leading role among them. Let us pray that, with the Lord’s help and with the cooperation of all men of good will, a culture of encounter may spread that is capable of bringing down all the walls that still divide the world, and that innocent are no longer persecuted and even killed because of their beliefs and their religion.”
Angelus Pope Francis: “Where there is a wall, there is a closed heart; bridges are needed, not walls”
