A glimpse at the persuasive power of Catherine of Sienna. In 1376 Catherine of Sienna sailed down the river to Avignon, France, to challenge Pope Gregory XI to leave the corruption around him and go back to Rome. Not only is it remarkable that she got an appointment with the pope at all, but he actually listened to her and went back to Rome. These events at Avignon demonstrate Catherine’s influence and are one reason she was selected as a "pivotal player" by Fr. Robert Barron and his team at Word on Fire Ministries for their new series by the same name.
