"Even as Bishop of Buenos Aires, I felt that young people experienced a sense of being orphans. I often asked fathers if they played with their children, if they had the courage and love to waste time with their children. The response was dreadful. In the majority of cases [the fathers answered]: I can’t because I have so much work to do. The father was absent from his child. He didn’t play with him, and he didn’t waste time with him.”
