Fr. Darren Dias talks about the connection of spirituality and openness in the Church’s mission
"Vatican II: The Promise of Renewal" was an international three-day conference held in Toronto from May 7-9, 2015, celebrating the 800th Anniversary of the founding of the Dominican Order, and the 50th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council. Sponsored by the Dominican Institute of Toronto, the conference focused on numerous subject areas, one of which was dialogue. Here, Professor Darren Dias, OP, discusses the centrality of dialogue to the Church’s mission and to the Dominican order.
"The (Vatican) Council asks us to enter into relationships and dialogue with other religions, which can be a challenge… but the alternative to dialogue is violence, and as Christians, of course, this is antithetical to who we are. Dialogue is part and parcel of what it means to be a Roman Catholic and Christian in the world," he said.
