Andrea Bocelli Sings “The Lord’s Prayer” to Appreciative Pope, and Philly Crowd

The Italian tenor’s angelic performance was among the highlight’s of the Festival of FamiliesIt’s not clear how much Pope Francis enjoyed the other musical performances at last night’s Festival of Families— one couldn’t help but think, like many of his generation, he might have wanted to ask the management to “please turn it down.”

There’s was no doubt, however, that he enjoyed  Andrea Bocelli’s performance, as he joined the rapt audience in appreciation of the Italian classical singer’s stirring rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Bocelli told TIME magazine last week that he was thrilled to sing before Pope Francis:  “Having the chance to sing again in front of the Holy Father, for whom I have deep and sincere devotion, offering my humble contribution as a fervent Catholic, is a great honor for me. St. Augustine notoriously reminds us that singing is an extraordinary form of prayer. And this is my goal, my purpose and my joy: to pray together,” he said.
