Gerlane Suerda de Santana, 26, has four children and is pregnant of the fifth. She has never had a prenatal exam and does not know how many months until she is due. Suerda lives in the riverside community of Coque, in Recife, northeastern Brazil. Pope Francis authorized on Monday (21) that all priests of the Catholic Church can forgive abortion. With the decision, those who have abortions will no longer be excommunicated by the Church. With the cases of Zika Virus occurring in Brazil, pregnant women continue to worry about microcephaly and many women consider the hypothesis of abortion.
