From cookie dough becoming cookies on car hoods, to melting mailboxes, residents in the Southwest are posting pictures from a dangerous heatwave.“It’s so hot I’m melting.” We’ve all heard it said during one hot summer or another. But when you live in Arizona, this phrase becomes more reality than hyperbole. Residents have been posting pictures from the recent heatwave of everything from street signs to trashcans starting to melt in the heat.

Summer temperatures in Arizona have been known to reach up to 128 degrees, but the first place prize goes to Death Valley, California where, in July of 1913, temperatures reached 134 degrees.

Heat warnings are bring issued in several states after the heat knocked out the power in California and roads began to crack from these temperatures. Residents across the country are being reminded to stay hydrated and to check their cars for animals and children before leaving them locked.

Be sure to stay cool!
