The text of “O Salutaris Hostia” comes from Verbum Supernum, a Catholic Eucharistic hymn written by St. Thomas Aquinas. It was written for the Hour of Lauds in the Divine Office of Corpus Christi. The text refers to the institution of the Eucharist by Christ at the Last Supper and his Passion and death.

“O Salutaris Hostia” (O Saving Victim) consists of the last two verses of Verbum Supernum. Traditionally, “O Salutaris Hostia” is sung during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. This recording was made in the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Jurek with the mixed Canticum Lubilaeum choir.
