This 20-year-old sings circles around Faure’s “Tantum Ergo.”Marija Sprūde is a fresh operatic singer from Latvia. At just 20 years old, Marija has a voice already full of color. She is what is known in the opera world as a coloratura. The female voice tends to fully mature in the late 20s, but if this recording of Faure’s “Tantum Ergo” is any indication, she will be a vocal powerhouse in a few short years.

Marija has been studying voice since she was 15 years old at the Harlequin studio in the Daugavpils Theater. She attended Jazepa Medina music school and is still a student. This is her first professionally recorded music video.

Sprūde had a video interview with the vegan cuisine guide Mello, during which she spoke a bit about her music, while she and the host took the viewers through a recipe for a vegan chocolate mousse:

“I believe that every person has his own mission, his own way, which he has to arrive at during his life. Music makes the world better. It helps people, arises positive emotions and evokes a smile. Our world today is full of negative things. That’s why I’m very happy that I can partly contribute to the good.”
