A woman in Georgia received an unexpected mission after purchasing a vintage projector at Goodwill.Glamorous and nostalgic, the photos could be professional. Each everyday frame offers a window into one family’s life — their elegant nights out on the town, their family travels, their laughing rambunctious children, their simple pleasures.

Forgotten in an old projector, the photos were picked up by their accidental guardian Kristie Bauemert in a Georgia Goodwill. Now, she’s on a mission to locate the family and reunite them with their legacy.

An article published by AJC has speculated that the family may have been a military family due to the inclusion of both white and black children playing together in the photographs, a circumstance highly unusual for that era. The collection also features photographs of international travel, including photos from Nagasaki and Wake Island, a small island in the Pacific Ocean used primarily by the military.

Beaumert commented, “As far as photography goes, this person knew what they were doing. They weren’t just randomly snapping.” Whoever this family was, they had a photographer in the family, professional or not.

After spending so much time with the collection, Beaumert says her elusive visitors feel like friends. “They look so happy,” she observed. “They wanted to take pictures together all the time. I feel like I know the family now.”

Photographs have a wonderful way of reminding to stop and savor a moment, because it won’t last forever. These photos serve as a beautiful time capsule of one family’s heritage of love, change, and joy.
