Opening ourselves up to those around us could improve our well-being.Being open to conversation with those around us has been proven to extend our life, and yet our culture of isolation seems unfazed by this newfound research. In a study of elderly people, social integration was the greatest predictor of whether an individual outlived others. That means that the friendly chitchat you exchange with the barista might do more to extend your life than your new exercise regimen or diet.

In the video below, posted by the Power of Positivity, we are invited to consider why adults find friendly conversation so awkward today. As if often the case, it is children who show us the way back to what’s most important:
