‘My whole life I’ve yearned for a love that strong,’ said the poster of the photo that touched hearts everywhere.Few of us can witness an elderly couple enjoying one another’s company or caring for each other without having an emotional response to it. And the most recent image making the internet rounds is no exception.

The sweet photo of a 96-year-old man feeding his 93-year-old wife at Wendy’s on the Love What Matters Facebook page is no exception; it’s been shared nearly 30,000 times.

“My whole life I’ve yearned for a love that strong,” said the poster of the photo. As the gentleman got up to throw his food away, the photo-taker asked the man his age, and he also revealed that he and his wife had been married nearly 75 years. His wife, however, is sadly battling Alzheimer’s.

In the meantime, they inspire us by simply embracing the long lives they’ve been blessed with, since they were out on that particular evening for their regular “date night.”

As the poster of the story said, “Getting all the way to the end of the line with the person you started out with is one of the most glorious things on the face of this earth … To share a deep love and bond that only grows as we age, that is a beautiful thing.”

Truly, to reach a point with one’s spouse at which love is fiercer than ever before, despite the disappearance of youthful vitality — well, there are few things worthier of fighting for.
