The Irish commercial is a timely reminder to look out for those in need this holiday. The older members of the public have had it particularly hard this year. While too many have succumbed to COVID-19, others have felt scared and painfully lonely. This heartbreaking reality was the focus of a recent Christmas TV commercial for an Irish DIY store called Woodies.

The seniors of the Emerald Isle faced particularly severe measures during the lockdown, with the elderly not able to venture beyond their front gates. Yet, despite these measures, they’ve battled on and set a shining example to the younger generations.

In the ad, a lonely elderly woman is seen going about her restricted daily life. Neighbors pass by and greet the vulnerable lady, and teenagers hang around the street chatting. In her eyes you can see the sadness, the fear, the loneliness. As Christmas draws near you can’t help but feel for her. And then comes the surprise — but we won’t ruin it for you!

Take a moment to enjoy this one-minute commercial that captures the beauty of two generations who’ve really shown strength, kindness, and love throughout this pandemic. And don’t forget to pass on the message: this Christmas, keep a close eye on the elderly in your community who might be feeling more vulnerable than ever.
