David Wesley compresses the vast catalog of Christian music into one fantastic performance.

The sacred music style sure has changed a lot over the centuries. Where the tones change, however, the content remains largely the same. Each tune is tailored to the times, drawing the faithful in with familiar chord progressions to better receive the message.

YouTuber David Wesley conveys the development of Christian worship music wonderfully in today’s featured video. In just seven minutes, he highlights some of the most popular hymns from 560 AD to today

Opening with “Be Thou My Vision,” Wesley cycles through 21 hymns in a stupendous medley. What struck us the most was how many genres have been incorporated into worship music since the 20th century. From spirituals to bouncing church pop, there’s something for everyone in Christian music.

Wesley further impresses by singing each voice part on his own. His crisp tenor voice resonates with such a smooth timbre that his hummed chords almost sound like an organ in some instances. We appreciated that he provided the dates of each hymn to help the viewer keep track.

David Wesley’s YouTube channel is brimming with fantastic recordings of hymns and songs of faith. He’s not just a performer, but an educator as well. Along with more than 30 high quality a cappella choral hymns, he offers training videos for worship music groups. From vocal techniques to tips to expand your repertoire, he offers everything a church musician needs to hone their craft.
