The Holy Father expresses his closeness to all the sick.

Pope Francis had a "quiet day" on July 7, despite a "feverish episode" in the evening, announced the director of the Vatican press office on July 8 in his noon health report bulletin.

Pope Francis has been hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic since July 4, when he had a pre-scheduled surgery for a “severe” diverticular stenosis.

The Pontiff underwent new microbiological tests and a chest scan on the morning of July 8, which found nothing abnormal. His nutrition is still oral (the IV was stopped yesterday) and planned treatments are continuing.

He is expected to spend a week recovering in the hospital.

The head of the Catholic Church has also reached out to other patients, showing "his paternal proximity" to young patients from the neighboring department of oncology and pediatric neurosurgery. He sent them his "affectionate greetings."

The Holy Father "turns his gaze towards those who are suffering, thus expressing his closeness to the sick, especially those who need the most care," reported the press office.
