The State of California is gearing up for its first official California March for Life. Following a brief rally, attendees will march around the State Capitol building in Sacramento. The August 25 event was organized by the national March for Life organization in partnership with the California Family Council.
According to CNA, this is the first march of its kind in California. There have been previous pro-life marches or rallies, like San Francisco’s Walk for Life West Coast or Los Angeles’ OneLifeLA. These, however, were organized at the city and regional levels. The California March for Life is the first such state-wide event.
The itinerary of the day, listed on the March for Life website, begins with an opening prayer from Pastor Greg Farrington of Destiny Christian Church. After the national anthem, the crowd will hear from State Assemblyman James Gallagher and State Senator Shannon Grove. Pro-Life advocates Jeanne Mancini and Lea Kalinowski will also speak before the march begins.
In a press release, Mancini, President of the March for Life Defense and Education fund, said of the day:
The rally will take place on the steps of the Capitol building and the march will encircle the surrounding block. Organizers explained that they chose the date and route because the state legislature is in session. It is the hope of organizers that their state representatives cannot ignore their demonstration.
In a statement, President of the California Family Council Johnathan Keller welcomed anyone who wishes to march:
