This Labor Day, use these insights to reflect on how your work enhances your life

WORK

Having a job provides so much more than an income.

Many Americans will be taking a well-earned day off tomorrow in recognition of their labors. While it is a day of rest, Labor Day also provides us with the perfect opportunity to consider the place of work in your daily family life.

To help you in your reflections, consider these important points:

If ever there was a person who knew the virtue of hard work, then it's Jesus' earthly father. If you need a little help getting up in the morning and getting down to work, see how St. Joseph can inspire you.

The positive side to society changing is the myriad of opportunities in the workplace, and the ability for seniors to continue playing an integral role at work. This charming story is just one example of the elderly showing us the joy to be had in a long career.

The job market can be very disheartening, especially if you're desperate for work. The important thing is not to give up, and to see the real dignity in actually wanting to work.

COVID has meant most of us working from home. It's not always easy, but it does allow for flexibility and for parents to focus on family life, and on each other! If you're able to work at home look at these ways to make it a great success.

We often look at saints and can't imagine that behind their deep spiritual life there was also a regular career. Take a look at the professions of these familiar saints and remember that holiness can be found in everyday life.

If you're finding work a bit of a drag, take heart from the fact that all your efforts can be offered up to God. The very act of stepping up and trying to care for your family is a wonderful example of God's love in action.

Lots of people don't get the chance to breathe as they're so entrenched in their careers. Remember, there are ways to make the most of your professional life while still enjoying your family.

Work may provide the means to sustain you and your family, but don't forget, it also provides a few giggles!
