St. Sebastian has been a powerful intercessor for any need, whether it is the plague, or the ravages of war.
While St. Sebastian is more widely known as the patron saint of athletes, during the Middle Ages he was more commonly invoked for protection from any danger.
He was invoked during the many plagues that spread throughout Europe, as well as during the many devastating wars.
As a result, he became a popular intercessor for any need, especially those that threaten life.
