The singer and actor, Lady Gaga, has certainly grown into her star status with compassion and kindness. We previously mentioned how the talented singer gave a beautiful performance while supporting her friend, Tony Bennett, as he battles Alzheimer's. Now she's been helping another singing and acting legend -- Liza Minnelli.
During the controversial Oscars ceremony, all focus was unfortunately on the Will Smith and Chris Rock slap. However, there was another moment that floated under the radar but deserves our accolades: when Lady Gaga gave an encouraging hand to Minnelli, 76, as they announced the Best Picture winner.
Minelli has been out of the public eye for some time as she has battled with complications from encephalitis. So it was a great delight to see her make an appearance at the Oscars, with one of her biggest fans, Lady Gaga, at her side.
The two stars lit up the stage as they prepared to give the award, and a slightly overwhelmed Minnelli, who was in a wheelchair, looked to her protégée for support. While the women announced the award, Lady Gaga held the hand of Minnelli, saying a reassuring, "Do you see that? The public, they love you."
When it came to announcing the winner, Minnelli got confused with the envelopes, saying "I don't understand." Once more, Lady Gaga was there sweetly saying, "I got it."
As the pair watched the clips for the Best Picture, Lady Gaga offered some further comfort to Minnelli by crouching down to tell her gently "I got you." Minnelli replied with a simple "I know."
The friendship between the two women was lovely to see and Lady Gaga's graciousness and compassion towards Minnelli was so heartening. That's what makes her a true star.
Here's a little look at the women as they present the award:
