The Aleteia.org global network has been named "Best Website" in the general publishing category by the Catholic Media Association of the United States and Canada.

The prestigious award was announced on July 7 at the closing ceremony of the Catholic Media Conference, held in Portland, Oregon.

More than a century of professional excellence

The Catholic Media Association, formerly known as the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada, is an institution that brings together press and digital media specialists who specialize in reporting on the Catholic Church.

Founded in 1911, it has more than 600 member organizations and reaches more than 26 million people.

In the summary motivation for the recognition of Aleteia, judges wrote: "Superior, timely content that is well-written." They also said Aleteia provides, "Compelling information and visualization."

The other two winners in the category, taking second and third place respectively, were the website of the Catholic Near Eastern Association (Cnewa.org) and Busted Halo (Bustedhalo.com).

Reaching millions

Aleteia (aleteia.org), an online publication distributed in seven languages (English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Slovenian), is the Catholic website with the largest audience on the Internet.

Aleteia is an initiative launched by lay Catholics that emerged in 2013 with the accompaniment of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

It is supported by the Foundation for Evangelization through the Media (FEM), whose president is currently Prince Dominique de La Rochefoucauld-Montbel, Grand Hospitaller of the Order of Malta.

Since July 2015, the Media-Participations Group has been an industrial operator of Aleteia.

Its publishing activity is carried out in line with the magisterium of Pope Francis, in a spirit of collaboration with the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See.

In addition, bishops' conferences, religious orders and some religious communities are among the members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Evangelization through the Media (FEM).
