Pornography addiction is rampant, and sadly, many people were first exposed by accident and don’t want to be addicted.

STRIVE actually arose out of a different program for men called RISE: A 30 Day Challenge with Chris Stefanick. That program was aimed at restoring a man's identity as a beloved son, brother, a spouse, and a father. 

But it quickly became apparent that certain problems were widespread. Hundreds and hundreds of comments came from men who shared their deep struggles. 

“Pornography kept coming up,” Donaghy said. “We realized there was a deeper need of conversion at that level before we could talk about the deeper maturities of growing into authentic fatherhood.” 

Providentially, at the same time Matt Fradd reached out to the RISE team to create a program for helping men heal from pornographic addiction. And so STRIVE was born. 

“This is a broken world and a broken way of looking at other people that [many men] were born into and are constantly pressured into adopting,” Donaghy said. 

But hope and freedom really are possible. The key is connecting the desire with the woman a man loves. 

“The attraction, passion and desire for intimacy and for beauty within them is actually a good thing. The key is that this passion must always be connected to the person, to the beloved gift that woman is to us.”

This key unlocks the secret to breaking free of the addiction. “Our hope is that men move from using women towards authentically loving women, and loving themselves as a gift made for women,” Donaghy said.

“This program is not condemning; it is not about a guilt trip,” Donaghy said, “It is a challenge. It’s a call for men to become who they were born to be!” 

There is inherent good in men, made in the image and likeness of God. With help, the pressures and traps of pornography can be transformed. 

“Through self-awareness as well as self-discipline, and above all through God’s grace, a man can turn the flames of a misguided lust into a holy fire of self-giving love for woman and for family.”
