They wanted to share a life together and wanted the Church's blessing first.

Maria Gentil, 92, and Sebastião Valim, 78, got married in a very emotional Catholic ceremony this past July 28, 2022. The union of these senior citizens is proof that it’s never too late to live a story of true love.

The two reside in a condominium for the elderly in the municipality of Caçu, in the southwest of Goiás (central Brazil). It was there that they met and, about four months ago, started dating. The elderly couple fell in love and wanted to move in together. First, however, they wanted to get married and receive God's blessing.

The municipality's social workers organized the modest ceremony and included everything that the bride and groom could dream of for this great day: floral decorations, a bridesmaid, rings, and a nice dress and bouquet for the bride.

A local priest, Fr. Adilson Machado of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish, was invited to celebrate the wedding, which was attended by the residents of the condominium as well as friends and relatives of the bride and groom. Everyone was moved by the love between Maria and Sebastião.

The municipality of Caçu posted the wedding photos, and the images were a great success. "It's never too late for love. God bless you," posted one woman. Another internet user cheered them on: "Long live love!"
