NASCAR’s Johnny Sauter wins big—and gives credit to the Blessed Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus

And that’s not all. He also wanted to remind the television audience it was First Friday and to pray for the souls in purgatory.

When was the last time you heard a sports figure say that?

Check out this video above (h/t Church Pop!) following the November 3 race at the Texas Speedway, where he won the Jag Metals 350.

Johnny Sauter has made no secret of his Catholicism:

“I think the whole NASCAR family is religious,” says Sauter, who has raced professionally since he was 17.

Prayer isn’t something that is forced on Sauter. He was raised in Necedah, Wis., as a Catholic and thinks about God “on a daily basis.”

His motto: “God brought you to it, God will bring you through it. No matter what you’re doing and how bad things seem, it seems that there’s always a way around it or always a way through it.”

He made a similar statement when he won a championship last year.
