John Young, a Lyft driver out of Alabama is being recognized for taking a special interest in one of his passengers. Carol Williams was using Lyft so she could meet a man she met on Craig’s List about buying his car. When Young heard that she was going to meet a stranger with a large amount of money in her purse, he expressed his concern for her saftey:

So the driver turned off his app and became Williams’s “friend.” Young drove the grandmother to her meeting spot and stayed with her through the whole transaction.

Not only did Young stay to protect Williams, but he personally test drove the car himself to make sure it worked properly and even negotiated $300 off the original asking price.

Young explains why he did what he did for Williams:

“You hear the stories about people being in these situations like that and I just thought I’d be there for her. I shut off my app and I said, ‘Now I am your friend. We’re here together, so you won’t be alone while we are making this deal.’”

Not only did he make sure that the woman was safe during the transaction, he also test drove it and got the price reduced? Now that’s above and beyond!

So cheers to Mr. Young for being the kind of person who’s cab we would want to get into. Thank you for giving us a wonderful story!
