A 9-day-old baby had stopped breathing when Officer Mitrisin happened to drive by.

A Pennsylvania police officer, Kristin Mitrisin, recently recounted how she happened to be in the right place at the right time to save a newborn baby -- and she put it all down to God's intervention.

The parents of a 9-day-old baby were taking their newborn back to hospital as there was something not right about their "fussy" baby. On their way to the hospital the mom realized that their was something seriously wrong.

"She said she's not breathing. She's not breathing. I have to get her out of the car seat, and we were sitting at a red light at that point," explained the dad, Joe Schleicher to ABC15 News.

Thankfully, despite the incredibly stressful circumstances, baby Olivia's dad noticed a police officer who happened to be driving by. It was Officer Mitrisin, and he signaled to her that there was a problem. She directed the couple to pull over somewhere safe so she could help the baby.

"I took the baby out of the car and basically just put the life in the cop’s hands," Schleicher shared.

The police officer started doing press compressions and with the help of a corrections officer, who also happened to be in the vicinity and offered a helping hand, the baby started breathing again.

"It was the best cry I ever heard," explained the officer, who is also a mom of two. "I just know that God put me there that day."

Baby Olivia is currently at the hospital with a heart condition and will have to undergo surgery. We pray she makes a speedy recovery.
