Fans of The Chosen will soon have another way to enjoy the hit series on the life of Christ. The Augustine Institute has announced that it has secured the rights to the first season of The Chosen, which will be available to stream on its platform, Formed.
It might seem strange that we’re excited over the first season of The Chosen, while most fans have their sights set on the release of season 3 in November. The Augustine Institute isn’t just adding The Chosen to its catalog and calling it a day, however, as it is expanding on the series' religious education value with original Catholic commentary.
Original commentary
The Augustine Institute is producing commentary for each episode of The Chosen as part of its mission to help Catholics understand, live, and share their faith. This new content will feature explanations of the various scriptural references in the show from the Augustine Institute’s Graduate School of Theology professors. Furthermore, the commentary will highlight spots where the director took liberties to fill out the show.
The institute explained in its announcement:
While The Chosen is already up on Formed and available to stream, the commentary is still in production. On Formed, they write that they are expecting to release their original commentary in November. The proximity of this release to the launch of The Chosen’s third season couldn’t be more appropriate. Now we can prepare for new episodes by refreshing ourselves on the first, but this time with guidance from the Augustine Institute’s stellar academic staff.
The Augustine Institute has already negotiated a contract to stream the second season of The Chosen, which it will release with commentary in 2023. Visit Formed to learn more.
