The highly anticipated third volume of the Word on Fire Bible will continue to juxtapose biblical text with commentary and religious art.

Word on Fire Catholic Ministries has announced the release of the third volume of the Word on Fire Bible in the summer of 2023. This illuminated Bible series, of which there are seven planned volumes, has been acclaimed for its high quality materials, exceptional art, and thoughtful commentary on the scriptures.

Nicolas Fredrickson, one of the designers of the Word on Fire Bible, said of the third volume:

“More than reading a standard book, people should enjoy the Bible as a reading experience and want to spend more time with it. So much of this project was moved by grace. All the ‘God moments’ we’ve experienced confirm that we are supposed to be doing this.”

In Volume 3, Word on Fire presents the first 5 books of the Old Testament, commonly referred to as the Pentateuch. The text will be accompanied by 90 commentaries from Bishop Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire, as well as more than 230 commentaries from saints, mystics, and scholars.

This volume’s commentaries will include those of historical figures, including: Dorothy Day, Ephrem the Syrian, Hildegard of Bingen, and Bernard of Clairvaux.

In a press release, Word on Fire described the book itself as “exquisitely designed” and promised superior paper quality, full-color art spreads, and Smyth-sewn binding. The third volume will be available in both hardcover, bound in an heirloom leather, or paperback.

Of the new volume, Bishop Barron said:

“The first five books of the Bible—the Pentateuch—are the most important in the Old Testament. This third volume of the Word on Fire Bible treats of these absolutely pivotal texts, once more featuring the best commentaries from the great tradition as well as beautiful works of art. Our purpose is to draw readers into the power of God’s Holy Word.”
